Manchester United have been dealt a second transfer blow in the space of a week.
The Red Devils have been linked heavily with Jurrien Timber over the last few months, with some reports even suggesting a deal was nearly done.
However, earlier this month, De Telegraaf reported that Ajax believe they hold the ‘advantage’ amid interest from United in Jurrien Timber this summer. The Amsterdam club’s promising centre-back is a target at Old Trafford, but it is claimed that Timber is unsure of a move to United with the World Cup now just around the corner.
Timber has spent the last eight years plying his trade in Amsterdam with Ajax.
The 20-year-old joined the Dutch powerhouse’s youth ranks back in 2014, departing fellow Eredivisie side, Feyenoord.
Timber enjoyed several successful years with Ajax’s youth sides, and is a Dutch under-17 champion.
However, despite still only being 20, the stopper has long been establishing himself as something of a key cog in Ajax’s senior setup.
As a result, he would likely make a fine addition to Manchester United’s backline, working alongside experienced duo Harry Maguire and Raphael Varane.

Hopes of a Timber transfer, though, appear to be dead in the water. It has been reported that Manchester United have been dealt a blow after transfer target Jurrien Timber intimated he will opt to stay at Ajax this summer.
This is United’ second big blow of the week, with Frenkie de Jong suggesting on Tuesday evening that he was happy at Barcelona:
“You’re always flattered when teams show interest in you as a player,” Said De Jong. “But I am at the biggest club in the world at the moment and I feel fine there. So there’s no news.”
