Pep Guardiola speaks out over Klopp relationship post-Man City vs Liverpool

Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola has, on Sunday evening, provided a fresh insight into his relationship with Liverpool counterpart Jurgen Klopp.

Guardiola and Klopp, of course, pitted their respective managerial talents against one another for the latest occasion a short time ago.

In a clash built up as the most important of the Premier League season to date, champions City, sitting a point clear at the division’s summit, welcomed sole title rivals Liverpool to the Etihad.

And, what ensued proved 90 minutes to remember, en route to a thrilling 2-2 stalemate in Manchester.

It was the evening’s hosts who just managed to shade tings when it came to goalscoring opportunities across the duration of the clash, but, in the end, strikes on the part of Diogo Jota and Sadio Mane ensured that the situation atop the Premier League table remained as you were.

On the back of the action coming to a close at the Etihad, meanwhile, the game’s two managers were spotted coming together for a warm touchline embrace, in just the latest display of sportsmanship between Klopp and Guardiola.

Speaking in his post-match interview, the latter was therefore drawn on his relationship with his opposite number on Merseyside.

And Guardiola went on to assure that, though the pair are ‘not friends’, his ‘respect’ for Klopp remains sky high, albeit with City’s boss ready to do whatever it takes to get emerge triumphant when the two sides face off once more in less than a week’s time:

“I respect Jurgen [Klopp] so much. He has made me a better manager. We are not friends – we don’t lunch together – I have his number, but I don’t call him. There is respect – he knows next Saturday, I will try to beat him.”

‘Close to perfection’

Elsewhere amid the post-match media exchanges at the Etihad, Jurgen Klopp was too drawn on the evening’s exchanges, with a specific emphasis on Man City’s performance.

And the Liverpool boss went on to hint that his side may have gotten somewhat ‘lucky’ in emerging with a point, amid the suggestion that ‘the only way’ to get the better of the Sky Blues is to be all but perfect:
