Rangers have been handed a huge injury lift over Ibrox central midfielder John Lundstram…
What’s the latest?
Gio van Bronckhorst has revealed that the Glasgow giants gem came off in the 26th minute against St. Mirren with a groin issue and he is hopeful that it will not keep him out for their European clash with Braga.
He told the Daily Record: “Lundstram felt a little bit in his groin so we have to assess it in the next few days and see how he is. Hopefully he can make it for Thursday.”
Will Rangers beat Braga on Thursday?
The Gers face off against the Portuguese side later this week in the second leg of their Europa League quarter-final tie, having lost the opener 1-0.
Ibrox supporters will be delighted
Supporters will be delighted with the head coach’s comments as they indicate that he is not too worried about the injury blow. The Dutchman believes that there is a chance that he will be back in action on Thursday and this is a major boost for the club.
Rangers fans may have been left worrying about Lundstram’s availability for the rest of the season when they watched him walk off in the first half of the 4-0 win. However, their fears appear to have been quashed by the boss’ comments, with the ex-Sheffield United man hopefully back for the clash with Braga this week.
It would be a massive boost for the Gers to have him available as he has been impressive in the Europa League throughout the campaign. He has averaged a SofaScore rating of 6.97 across ten European outings, making 2.9 tackles and interceptions per game.
Lundstram has won 60% of his duels in the competition and was a bright spark in a dull performance in the first leg, recording a team-high 7.3 SofaScore rating. He won 100% of his individual battles, made two tackles and three interceptions, and completed 93% of his passes as his teammates failed to follow his lead on the night.
This shows that he has the ability to be an outstanding performer in Europe and that is why the supporters will be desperate for him to be fit for the clash on Thursday. A place in the semi-finals is up for grabs and the statistics suggest that having Lundstram available will increase their chances of being able to make it to the last four.
Therefore, fans will be delighted with this latest update and hoping that the scouse bruiser is able to recover in time for the huge match at Ibrox.
